The CrossFit Games are coming!Last year a lot of our members enjoyed watching the CrossFit Games together at CrossFit Leiden. A big community, all together watching the final events of the Games. A beer in one hand, outside was a nice BBQ with some fine meat and other good food…I can’t wait!
But first, The CrossFit Open.
The Open is the first stage of the CrossFit Games season and the largest community event of the year. Every year, hundreds of thousands of athletes come together to compete in this worldwide, online competition. At the end of this five week event, the fittest athletes move on to the next stages of competition: The Regionals. The Regionals will be in Madrid, June 2-4, 2017. Idea for a little Box vacation..? The fittest athletes of the Regionals move on to the Games.
Anyone can compete in the Open. All you have to do is sign up at Games.CrossFit.com and log your score each week. Workouts are released on Thursdays at 5 p.m. PT (Pacific Time, which is 2 a.m. on Friday in the Netherlands), and athletes have four days to complete the workout for the week and submit their score. Scores are due before 5 p.m. PT the following Monday (before 2 a.m. Tuesday). Complete the workouts at CrossFit Leiden with a judge, or film your effort from anywhere in the world and submit a link as proof. If you want to judge other athletes, you have to complete and pass the CrossFit Judge course.
Since 2015, the Open has offered a scaled option in addition to the prescribed workout. This option makes the all-inclusive event even more accessible to the masses.
Registration for the Open Games 2017 begins this Thursday, January 12.
It would be amazing if we can compete all together in this event. Make sure you register for either the scaled or RX’d division. All Open Games workouts from previous years are at Games.CrossFit.com, for you to see what to expect. And above all, have fun!
